Remembering and Rejoicing

Caregiving – a new documentary and national engagement campaign on the state and stakes of providing care in America.
In the historically Black Rondo neighborhood of St. Paul, Minnesota, a community that was torn apart over a half-century ago by the construction of a highway is finding new ways to care for one another. Remembering and Rejoicing focuses on a thriving chorus that was created to cultivate connection and care for elderly community members with dementia using the power of song. As the historical rupture in their community looms in the background of everyday life, we see how caregiving is needed both on an individual scale and on a community level. What does it take to heal the traumas of the past? And how does care for the most vulnerable in the present help the community heal?
There are an estimated 53 million to 105.6 million U.S. adults providing unpaid caregiving for family or friends. Every one of them has a story that’s filled with sacrifice, love, and the pursuit of dignity in care. Stream Caregiving now on WellBeings.org, the PBS App and PBS.org.
