Caregiving – a new documentary and national engagement campaign on the state and stakes of providing care in America.

For many caregivers, the experience of caregiving is transformational, traumatic and inspirational. Seeking ways to understand their new paths in life, many of them turn to art. Carlos Olivas III is a Latino male caregiver to his veteran father who has mild dementia. As a way of processing his feelings, Carlos began to write poetry. Here he shares one of those poems.

An estimated 53 million to 105.6 million U.S. adults provide unpaid caregiving for family or friends. Every one of them has a story filled with sacrifice, love, and the pursuit of dignity in care. The two-hour documentary will premiere Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at 9 p.m. ET on wellbeings.org, PBS, and the PBS YouTube ChannelStream now on the PBS App and PBS.org.
