I have been the primary caregiver for my parents since August 2023. I primarily care for my Mom, Vickie, who needs full-time care, and I assist my Dad, Irv, who needs help in many ways.
Caregiving for my folks is my full-time non-salary job. My husband, Josh, is the silent hero for all that I do. He runs a business and works a full-time job to keep us financially stable, which allows me to help my folks.
Along my journey, I have learned so much through research, experiences and people I’ve encountered. The top 2 pieces of advice I can offer to caregivers are the importance of practicing self-care and finding other caregiver friends. Without proper self-care, we can not care for our loved ones. Making connections with other caregivers is the key to feeling understood.
Wellbeings is doing amazing things to bring awareness and support the caregiving community. Thank you for all that you do.
Sincerely,
Ali Steele
