Kids are Caregivers Too
Caregiving – a new documentary and national engagement campaign on the state and stakes of providing care in America.
Charlie and A.J. Poole were just kids when they started caring for their grandmother, who lived with Alzheimer’s. Now, they’re speaking up for the 5.4 million kids and teens in the U.S. who are caregivers too. They’ve been longtime spokesmen for the American Association of Caregiving Youth (@aacy_caregivingyouth), and are the brothers behind KidsAreCaregiversToo.com, a platform raising awareness for youth caregivers. Their story reflects a growing crisis shown in the Caregiving documentary, where the hidden struggles of young caregivers come into light, showing just how much responsibility many kids carry behind the scenes.
An estimated 53 million to 105.6 million U.S. adults provide unpaid caregiving for family or friends. Every one of them has a story filled with sacrifice, love, and the pursuit of dignity in care. The two-hour documentary will premiere Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at 9 p.m. ET on wellbeings.org, PBS, and the PBS YouTube Channel. Stream now on the PBS App and PBS.org.
