Out of the Dark: Jaleen Roberts

Meet Jaleen Roberts a 2x Paralympic Games Silver Medalist in the long jump and the 100-meter dash.

“I was born with Cerebral Palsy, which is a condition caused by a stroke at birth, and it impairs my muscle coordination and strength,” Jaleen told us during a recent interview in San Diego.

The condition affects Jaleen’s fatigue level, so coaches and trainers need to be cognizant of that and plan her workouts accordingly.

“Although I have a disability, my mom really never treated me as such. So anything that my older brothers were doing, I was doing, too.”

Jaleen started sports at the age of five, and today she is not only a 2x Paralympian, but also a 5x Championship Medalist and a mental health advocate.

“When I became immersed with other Paralympic athletes and people with disabilities, it brought me an overwhelming sense of belonging that I didn’t really know that I was missing,” she told Sarah Klein.

Out of the Dark: Jaleen Roberts will be broadcast Fall 2024 via public media platforms and channels.
