Caregiving – a new documentary and national engagement campaign on the state and stakes of providing care in America.
Lynnette has been caring for her father Thomas for five years without taking a vacation. Now, she has an opportunity to go visit her family in New York, and be there for her beloved nephew’s graduation. Even though she knows there are other responsible people who can take care of her father, Lynnette’s fear of leaving him is real. With his dementia worsening every day, Lynnette worries that their relationship is becoming one-sided and that if she leaves now, he might forget her. A portrait of devotion and selflessness in the face of the impending loss of a loved one.
There are an estimated 53 million to 105.6 million U.S. adults providing unpaid caregiving for family or friends. Every one of them has a story that’s filled with sacrifice, love, and the pursuit of dignity in care. Learn more about Caregiving, airing on PBS & Well Beings.org in 2025.
