Caregiving – a new documentary and national engagement campaign on the state and stakes of providing care in America.
Matt and Kanlaya were a typical young couple forging their lives together when Kanlaya was suddenly debilitated by two massive strokes and a cancer diagnosis that left her paralyzed and cognitively impaired. Matt struggles to maintain some semblance of normalcy and stability for their young son, Ty, while caring for Kanlaya full time. He is dedicated to Kanlaya’s care knowing that what Ty needs most is his mom.
There are an estimated 53 million to 105.6 million U.S. adults providing unpaid caregiving for family or friends. Every one of them has a story that’s filled with sacrifice, love, and the pursuit of dignity in care. Learn more about Caregiving, airing on PBS & Well Beings.org in 2025.
