SUMMARY:Human Rights Day
DESCRIPTION:Human Rights Day is observed annually around the world on 10 December. It commemorates the anniversary of one of the world’s most groundbreaking global pledges: the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). This landmark document enshrines the inalienable rights that everyone is entitled to as a human being – regardless of race\, colour\, religion\, sex\, language\, political or other opinion\, national or social origin\, property\, birth or other status. \n\n\n\nThe Declaration was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in Paris on 10 December 1948 and sets out\, for the first time\, fundamental human rights to be universally protected.   \n\n\n\nAs a “common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations”\, the UDHR is a global blueprint for international\, national\, and local laws and policies and a bedrock of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development. \n\n\n\nIt is available in 577 languages\, from Abkhaz to Zulu\, making the UDHR the most translated document in the world.

SUMMARY:BRING THEM HOME Limited Theatrical Stop – Chicago
DESCRIPTION:Narrated by Lily Gladstone\, BRING THEM HOME (Aiskótáhkapiyaaya) chronicles a decades-long initiative by members of the Blackfoot Confederacy to bring wild buffalo (Blackfeet: iinnii) back to the Blackfeet Reservation. A thriving wild buffalo population would not only reconnect Blackfeet with a central part of their heritage\, spirituality\, and identity but would also provide economic opportunities and healing for the community. Along the way\, however\, the initiative faces obstacles from ranchers who see the buffalo as a threat to the cattle ranches that dominate the land and are a legacy of colonization. BRING THEM HOME charts this struggle from past to present\, following the tribal members who have given their lives and hearts to this effort\, and is an intimate look at the willpower and resilience it takes to survive and thrive in the face of near-continuous hostility. With a funding grant from the Redford Center\, and its dual focus on Indigenous rights and environmentalism\, BRING THEM HOME is a serendipitous complement to our Robert Redford series.

SUMMARY:Winter Solstice
DESCRIPTION:The Winter Solstice is the shortest day and longest night of the year\, occurring around December 21st in the Northern Hemisphere (June 20th/21st in the Southern Hemisphere) when Earth’s tilt points it farthest from the sun\, marking the beginning of longer days and celebrating the “rebirth” of the sun with festivals like Yule\, Saturnalia\, and Dōngzhì. It’s caused by Earth’s axial tilt\, not its distance from the sun\, and is a significant cultural event symbolizing light’s return.

SUMMARY:Peer to Peer 8 Week Zoom Education Course
DESCRIPTION:NAMI Peer-to-Peer is a free\, 8-session course for adults living with mental health challenges. The course provides an educational setting \n\n\n\nPeer to Peer 8 Week Education Course through Zoom \n\n\n\nNAMI Peer-to-Peer is a free 8-session course for adults living with mental health challenges. The course provides an educational setting focused on recovery that offers respect\, understanding\, encouragement\, and hope. The course is taught by Peer Leaders who are devoted to helping others overcome the challenges of life with a mental health condition and know what it is like to live with a mental health challenge. Recovery is different for each person\, but the need for support on the journey is universal. The program is a peer-directed program because we believe that no one can teach about mental health recovery like someone who has lived it. This course is not a map or instruction manual for life with a mental health condition. It is a valuable resource that helps participants uncover what living well looks like for them. With new knowledge\, tools and support\, people can better take charge of their lives and choices. \n\n\n\nThe NAMI Peer-to-Peer education program is: \n\n\n\n\nClass 1: Introduction\, Mental Health\, and Recovery\n\n\n\nClass 2: The Brain and the Body\n\n\n\nClass 3: Telling Your Story\n\n\n\nClass 4: Strengthening Relationships\n\n\n\nClass 5: Growing Support Networks\n\n\n\nClass 6: Tools for Enhancing Recovery\n\n\n\nClass 7: Your Story\, Your Strengths\n\n\n\nClass 8: Moving Forward\, Sharing\, Evaluation\, Certification\, and potluck!\n\n\n\n\nWhen: Thursdays starting January 22\, 2026 through March 12\, 2026. Classes will be held on 8 Thursdays. \n\n\n\nWhere: Zoom \n\n\n\nThe Zoom link will be sent to you before the class begins. \n\n\n\nNo Cost to Attend: All materials are provided.
