SUMMARY:Filpino American History Month
DESCRIPTION:Filipino Americans are the second-largest Asian American group in the nation and the third-largest ethnic group in California\, after Latinas/os and African Americans. The celebration of Filipino American History Month in October commemorates the first recorded presence of Filipinos in the continental United States\, which occurred on October 18\, 1587\, when “Luzones Indios” came ashore from the Spanish galleon Nuestra Senora de Esperanza and landed at what is now Morro Bay\, California. In 2009\, U.S. Congress recognized October as Filipino American History Month in the United States. Various states\, counties\, and cities in the U.S. have established proclamations and resolutions declaring observance of Filipino American History Month. The late Dr. Fred Cordova\, along with his wife\, FANHS Founder Dr. Dorothy Laigo Cordova\, first introduced October as Filipino American History Month in 1992 with a resolution from the FANHS National Board of Trustees. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n WellBeings – Filipino American History & Culture Quiz\n \n\n\n \n \n WELLBEINGS INTERACTIVE\n Filipino American History & Culture Quiz\n Test your knowledge on historical milestones\, labor movements\, cultural pioneers\, and notable figures in American history. \n \n\n \n \n Loading question…\n \n \n \n \n \n Next Question →\n \n\n \n Quiz Complete\n \n \n YOUR SCORE\n 0/10\n \n \n\n COPY AND SHARE YOUR SCORE\n \n \n\n \n Educational & Historical Sources: Filipino American National Historical Society (FANHS)\, Library of Congress\, and Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center.

SUMMARY:World Meningitis Day
DESCRIPTION:World Meningitis Day is coordinated by the Confederation of Meningitis Organisations\, a global network of patient groups and health professionals working to reduce the burden of meningitis worldwide. Meningitis is an inflammation of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord\, most often caused by bacterial or viral infection\, and it can progress from flu-like symptoms to life-threatening illness within hours. The day is used to promote awareness of early warning signs\, such as fever\, stiff neck\, and sensitivity to light\, as well as the vaccines available to prevent several of the most common bacterial causes. For a general wellness audience\, this is a good opportunity for a symptom-recognition post\, since meningitis is one of those illnesses where speed of diagnosis genuinely changes outcomes.

SUMMARY:International Day of Older Persons
DESCRIPTION:Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1990\, International Day of Older Persons recognizes the contributions older adults make to their families\, communities\, and economies\, while also highlighting the challenges they face\, including social isolation\, elder abuse\, and unequal access to health care. Each year\, the observance carries a theme set by the UN\, often tied to aging populations\, caregiving\, or the rights of older people. Globally\, the number of people over 65 is growing faster than any other age group\, which the UN uses this day to underscore as a public health and social policy priority. For Well Beings\, it’s a natural tie-in to caregiving content and any programming that touches on aging in place\, elder fraud\, or long-term care.
