SUMMARY:Filpino American History Month
DESCRIPTION:Filipino Americans are the second-largest Asian American group in the nation and the third-largest ethnic group in California\, after Latinas/os and African Americans. The celebration of Filipino American History Month in October commemorates the first recorded presence of Filipinos in the continental United States\, which occurred on October 18\, 1587\, when “Luzones Indios” came ashore from the Spanish galleon Nuestra Senora de Esperanza and landed at what is now Morro Bay\, California. In 2009\, U.S. Congress recognized October as Filipino American History Month in the United States. Various states\, counties\, and cities in the U.S. have established proclamations and resolutions declaring observance of Filipino American History Month. The late Dr. Fred Cordova\, along with his wife\, FANHS Founder Dr. Dorothy Laigo Cordova\, first introduced October as Filipino American History Month in 1992 with a resolution from the FANHS National Board of Trustees. \n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n Filipino American History Month (October): Commemorating the history\, heritage\, culture\, and achievements of Filipino Americans.\n \n\n \n Filipino American History & Culture Check\n \n \n \n \n Question 1 of 10\n 10% Complete\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n 1. SUMMARY:World Meningitis Day
DESCRIPTION:World Meningitis Day is coordinated by the Confederation of Meningitis Organisations\, a global network of patient groups and health professionals working to reduce the burden of meningitis worldwide. Meningitis is an inflammation of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord\, most often caused by bacterial or viral infection\, and it can progress from flu-like symptoms to life-threatening illness within hours. The day is used to promote awareness of early warning signs\, such as fever\, stiff neck\, and sensitivity to light\, as well as the vaccines available to prevent several of the most common bacterial causes. For a general wellness audience\, this is a good opportunity for a symptom-recognition post\, since meningitis is one of those illnesses where speed of diagnosis genuinely changes outcomes.
