SUMMARY:A BIPOC Guide to Starting Culturally Affirming Therapy
DESCRIPTION:The thought of starting therapy can be overwhelming and intimidating\, especially for Black\, Indigenous\, and people of color (BIPOC). Talking to a stranger about your personal life might not just feel outside your comfort zone\, but also be heavily stigmatized within your community. The pressure of finding a provider who understands your lived experience\, cultural background\, and unique stressors can leave you feeling unsure where to begin. \n\n\n\nBut therapy doesn’t have to be one-size-fits-all\, or a clinical box that you have to force yourself into. It can\, and should\, be tailored to you and your needs. \n\n\n\nJoin Mental Health America for a live panel conversation with BIPOC therapists where they will help you consider how therapy could benefit your mental health and well-being. \n\n\n\nDuring this 60-minute session\, we will: \n\n\n\n\nLearn how to reframe therapy as a tool for personal and generational healing\, rather than a sign of weakness.\n\n\n\nDiscuss how to find providers who specialize in BIPOC experiences and meet your individual needs.\n\n\n\nTalk about what actually happens in a therapy session. We’ll break down what to expect so you can walk in feeling confident.\n\n\n\nExplore how therapy can look different (somatic work\, community healing\, narrative therapy) to fit your specific needs and comfort level.
